Launched in 2016, our program aims to give youth from immigrant communities access to connect with one another, gain professional development, and develop the skill set needed for leadership, advocacy, and activism through paid fellowship, internship, and volunteer opportunities.
It is a program for youth who want to protect their future through policy work and community building. Any youth between the ages 13-25 in the Bay Area (San Jose) or the Central Valley (Fresno) area are welcome to join!

Coming March 2027
Summer Youth Liberation Institute (SLYI)
SYLI is a hybrid 6-week summer leadership development program running from June to August with two sessions per week, totaling 12 sessions. The program accommodates 40 participants. The summer program explores various topics, including community organizing, policy advocacy, social and racial justice, activism, and abolition. The program recognizes and addresses the intersectionality experienced by youth.
Applications open - March 2027
YLI Internship
Commitment: 1 year, 15 hours/month
Stipend: $300/month
Opportunities: Up to 8 paid internships (4 for Bay Area, 4 for Central Valley)

Fellowship
After successfully completing an internship, participants can apply to become a fellow. This role builds on the internship experience with greater responsibility and leadership. This is open to youth ages 18-25.
Commitment: 1–2 years, 20 hours/week (September – August)
Compensation: $20/hour
Opportunities: Up to 4 paid fellowships (2 for Bay Area, 2 for Central Valley)

I learned that community organizing is so important and really how important the power of the people is. Attending the Sacramento event when we visited the California capitol and met the people in charge it really felt like they didn’t really care too much about our stories so I really think the power of the people is so important to push these people to do what we want them to do because they’re not gonna do it on their own.

Even with me being involved there’s so many things I’m not aware about, so I think everyone should get involved in anyway they can so they can be aware even if it’s just a little bit. Awareness brings change and we need change.

I think some lessons are that everyone has their own specialty/quirks that help out in being part of a team. I say this because I think it’s important to recognize that in a team/community people can be completely different personality wise but they can all still come together towards a certain goal so learning about team work/team building + applying it will be something I will continue to carry.
